Arsenal Women beat Spurs, West Ham hold Man Utd, Brighton score seven | OneFootball

Over 60,000 saw Arsenal Women narrowly win the north London derby, West Ham held Manchester United and Brighton scored seven.

Arsenal moved back to within three points of the leaders, with a single-goal success over Tottenham Hotspur. Despite the Gunners being dominant in the first half, Spurs went closest when Jess Naz’s shot was tipped onto the cross bar and over by Manuela Zinsberger. Arsenal took just three second-half minutes to find the net, Beth Mead quickly playing the ball inside for Alessia Russo to finish. Tottenham caused some moments of concern for the hosts but the one goal was decisive.

Chelsea’s 4-0 win at Leicester City saw them take back top spot from Manchester City on goal-difference. Yuka Momiki pulled a good chance wide for the Foxes when following up a Hannah Hampton save but Chelsea went in two up at the break. With a corner kick not being cleared, Nathalie Bjorn managed to hook the loose ball into the back of the net. Then Mayra Ramirez took the ball off Julie Thibaut in the centre circle and advance to round the keeper and slot home. It was 3-0 entering the last 25 minutes when Johanna Rytting Kaneryd’s effort on the break was deflected in, Catarina Macario came off the bench to end 20 months out injured and score on her debut.

West Ham held Manchester United after a late leveller, to move six points clear of last place, while their visitors are now nine points off the Champions League places. Rachel Williams gave the visitors the best of starts with a fourth-minute opener, Vivianne Asseyi equalising with an 85th-minute lob.

Liverpool were 4-1 winners away to Aston Villa, aided by two goals via set-pieces in a ten-minute first-half spell, as they moved level on points with fourth-placed Manchester United. Grace Fisk tucked away a loose ball after a free kick and Sophie Roman Haug headed in the second when Daphne van Domselaar failed to convincingly clear a Jasmine Matthews cross. Sarah Mayling halved the deficit from the spot, after Gemma Bonner took down Kirsty Hanson. The two-goal cushion was restored around the hour mark, Emma Koivisto with a good far-post finish from another Matthews delivery. Koivisto scored again with a looping header from Leanne Kiernan’s cross.

Bristol City’s hopes of staying up took a blow with a high-scoring home defeat to Brighton. Elisabeth Terland was again on target for Brighton, finding the net 20 minutes in after a corner. Four minutes later, Pauline Bremer doubled the advantage from close range. Bristol City gave themselves hope only two minutes into the second period when Megan Connolly netted a free kick, only for Maria Thorisdóttir’s corner to be turned in by Terland for her second and Tatiana Pinto to make it 4-1. Over it was not quite, as Brooke Aspin headed in a Ffion Morgan delivery and Amalie Thestrup got City’s third. However, Madison Haley turned in Bremer’s cross late on and in added time Vicky Losada converted a penalty and Katie Robinson made it 7-3.
