Arsenal moved back to within five points of leaders Chelsea with an impressive victory at Liverpool.

The Gunners started much the stronger, dominating possession, but did not greatly threaten Liverpool goalkeeper Rachael Lawes. In truth, the first half was quite a poor affair.

The game was crying out for a goal and it duly came on the hour out of nowhere. Vivianne Miedema found herself in some pace and saw her shot take a big deflection off Gemma Bonner and into the Liverpool net.

It was the Dutch forward’s first goal since December 2022, when she suffered a serious knee injury.

It was two just nine minutes later, this time Caitlin Foord the scorer. Some nice play led to Alessia Russo putting the ball on a plate for the Australian who made no mistake.

The last half hour was a case of game management and Arsenal duly did that for a big three points.

City cruise to comfortable victory at Spurs

Scorers: Turner (OG) 9′, Shaw 51′

Manchester City kept up the pressure on leaders Chelsea with a convincing win at Tottenham.

They started the stronger and opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Pressure from Khadija Shaw saw Amy Turner put the ball into her own net from close range.

The City players ran towards the touchline and paid tribute to teammate Jill Roord, who was ruled out for the season yesterday after tearing her ACL.

City continued to dominate with Spurs playing in spurts, having a goal ruled out for offside just after the half hour mark.

The lead was doubled shortly into the second half via Khadija Shaw, who continued her brilliant goalscoring run against Spurs with a nice left-footed finish after being played in by Lauren Hemp.

Spurs never truly threatened a comeback and City saw out the remainder of the game with relative ease.

Parris at the double as United seal crucial victory

Scorers: Parris 7′, 33′; Daly (pen) 60′

Manchester United had Nikita Parris to thank for sealing a crucial win against Aston Villa that keeps the top three just about in sight.

United opened the scoring in the seventh minute, Parris flicking a header past Villa keeper Daphne van Domselaar from a Hannah Blundell cross.

The goal did come against the run of play but Mark Skinner’s side built on it, doubling their lead in the 33rd minute. Lucía García’s shot cannoned off the crossbar and Parris, again, was on hand to tap into an empty net.

Into the second half, Villa got a lifeline via their most reliable source, Rachel Daly. The England striker both won and converted a penalty past her international teammate, Mary Earps.

United were relatively comfortable in seeing out the remaining half hour, with their former player Kirsty Hanson coming closest to earning a point for Villa.

West Ham the victors in basement battle against Bristol City

Scorers: Hayashi 13′, Asseyi 56′; Thestrup 48′

West Ham gained a valuable three points in the battle for WSL survival against fellow strugglers Bristol City.

The Irons opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a brillaint goal from Honoka Hayashi. The ball came to the Japanese international on the edge of the box and she made no mistake, putting the ball into the bottom right corner.

Into the second half, Bristol equalised directly after West Ham had a goal ruled out for offside. Ffion Morgan raced down the right wing and put the ball across to Amalie Thestrup, who finished from close range.

West Ham quickly regained the lead, Viviane Asseyi coolly finishing after finding herself free inside the Bristol penalty area.

They held onto that lead for the remainder of the game including , moving three points clear of Bristol, who remain bottom of the league.

Brilliant Cayman gives Leicester deserved win at Everton

Scorers: Cayman 53′

Leicester leapfrogged Everton in the table with a narrow but deserved victory at Walton Hall Park.

After a relatively even first half that saw both sides create chances but not able to find the finishing touch, Leicester opened the scoring in 53rd minute through Janice Cayman.

The Belgian midfielder spun Aurora Galli before curling a brilliant left-footed effort into the far corner from the edge of the area.

The goal did not hugely spring the Toffees into action as they struggled to mount much of a comeback.

Leicester looked more likely to grab a second with Jutta Rantala rattling the crossbar late on, but it mattered little as they held out for their first win in over three months.
