Arsenal’s summer recruitment drive continues to gather pace, with Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera emerging as a firm target. According to Sky Sports, the Gunners have opened talks for the highly-rated 21-year-old centre-back and are now aware that the player himself is pushing for the move.

Mosquera has communicated to Valencia that his “heart is set” on a switch to North London, despite the Spanish club rejecting an initial offer. The La Liga side value the defender at £25 million (€30 million), a fee that reflects his rising status in European football.
Mosquera made significant strides last season and is considered one of the brightest young defenders in Spain. Arsenal view him as a long-term investment who could offer depth and quality across the defensive line.
While the headline arrivals usually attract the attention, moves like this for promising defenders show a level of planning and foresight that has not always been consistent at the Emirates.
Cristhian Mosquera’s desire to join Arsenal is also encouraging. Players buying into the project and actively wanting to be part of what Mikel Arteta is building should never be underestimated. His age, versatility and progression in a demanding La Liga environment point to a defender with real upside.
Valencia’s £25 million valuation is understandable, and if Arsenal believe in Mosquera’s ceiling, it is a fee worth negotiating. With William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães firmly first choice, adding quality depth while also planning for the future is vital.
If this deal is finalised, it would reflect positively on Arsenal’s evolving recruitment strategy. It is not just about spending big, but spending smart. And that is exactly how squads capable of winning titles are built.
