The Gunners will pay an initial £15 million for the 21-year-old, after sporting director Andrea Berta finalised terms below Valencia’s original £17.4m asking price.

Mosquera is the major defensive addition of the summer to Arsenal’s rearguard.

He will provide serious competition for William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of the backline.

Comfortable at both centre-back and right-back, Mosquera effectively fills the void left by Takehiro Tomiyasu, who recently departed the club by mutual consent.

Mosquera joins from Valencia, where he made 90 senior appearances after progressing through their academy system.

Having joined the Spanish club at 12, he made his first-team debut in the Copa del Rey aged 17, before earning his La Liga bow days later in a 1-1 draw with Sevilla in January 2022.

His rise has been rapid. After earning promotion to the first-team squad ahead of the 2023/24 season, Mosquera quickly became a fixture in defence.

He started 37 of Valencia’s 38 league matches last term, playing the full 90 minutes in each of those starts.

Mosquera has started 70 of 72 possible league fixtures since August 2023, a record that underlines his durability and consistency.

His 6,394 minutes played over the last two seasons is the highest total recorded by any outfield player aged 21 or under across Europe’s top-five leagues.

The move is a significant coup for Arsenal. They had been closely monitoring his development.

His defensive maturity and physical reliability made him one of the most sought-after young centre-backs on the continent.

Mosquera has already linked up with his new teammates in Singapore, where Arsenal faced AC Milan at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

The Gunners will remain in Asia for friendlies against Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong before returning to London to finalise preparations for the 2025/26 campaign.
