Arsenal submit bid for Ajax’s 18-year-old goalkeeper Tommy Setford | OneFootball

According to De Telegraaf, Arsenal have submitted a proposal to Ajax for 18-year-old goalkeeper Tommy Setford. The North London club have made a €400,000 offer plus bonuses for the English shot stopper. Setford’s current contract at Ajax is valid until 2025.

Tommy Setford featured 15 times for Ajax’s U18s last season, keeping six clean sheets. Impressive performances earned the youngster a spot in the Jong Ajax squad, although he wasn’t handed the opportunity to play in the Eerste Divisie. Setford is reportedly open to the idea of a move to Arsenal, especially as it could take him a while to break into Ajax’s first team with so many other goalkeepers ahead of him in the ranks.

Arsenal will continue negotiating with Ajax over the coming days, but Ajax aren’t willing to let Setford leave for the current price offered. The club believe he has the potential to eventually break into the first team, although Setford is said to be keen on a move back to his home country.
