Ipswich Town are planning a move to sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah in the summer transfer window.

That's according to a report from TeamTalk, who say that the 24-year-old will likely be allowed to leave The Emirates Stadium once the transfer window opens again.

This has been a memorable season for Ipswich, whose 2-0 win at home to Huddersfield Town confirmed promotion from the Championship, in their first season after promotion from League One.

As a result, the Tractor Boys are now preparing for a return to the Premier League next season, in what will be their first campaign in the top-flight of English football for over 20 years.

Now it seems as though those in charge at Portman Road are already planning some eye-catching moves in the transfer window, ahead of that return to the Premier League.

Ipswich plotting Eddie Nketiah pursuit

As per this latest update, Ipswich are keen to make some exciting signings this summer, to strengthen Kieran McKenna's side in the wake of promotion.

It is claimed that one of those they are planning to move for is Nketiah. With the exception of a loan move to Leeds during the 2019/20 season, the striker has spent his entire senior career with Arsenal, after coming through their academy.

However, the 24-year-old has apparently been told that he is free to find a new club this summer, with the Gunners apparently willing to sell him for the right price.

For his part, Nketiah is said to be leaning towards leaving the club this summer, in the hope of finding more regular game time.

That could potentially open the door for Ipswich to make their move, although a number of other Premier League clubs are reportedly taking an interest in him as well.

As things stand, there are around three years remaining on Nketiah's current contract with Arsenal.

His future at The Emirates Stadium is therefore secure until the end of the 2026/27 season, meaning the Gunners are in a strong position to respond to offers for the striker this summer.

Eddie Nketiah could be a useful addition at Portman Road

It does feel as though the signing of Nketiah would be an excellent for Ipswich to make if they get it over the line.

Kieffer Moore is only on loan for this season, while Kayden Jackson is also out of contract this summer.

They will therefore need depth in the centre forward position ahead of the new season, especially with Ali Al-Hamadi and George Hirst untested at Premier League level.

Bringing in Nketiah would give the Tractor Boys another option to lead their line, with a player who already has over 100 appearances in the division to his name.

He has also shown that he can get goals at this level, and so could be just what Ipswich are looking for, especially given that with interest from elsewhere, this would be a big statement of intent from the club on their return to the Premier League.

So with all that in mind, the signing of Nketiah is one that would no doubt be welcomed by those connected with Ipswich Town this summer, if they are able to get it done.
