Speaking to The Conv3rsation, David Ornstein confirmed reports that Arsenal are offering Matteo Guendouzi out in potential swap deals for their summer targets.
Following Charles Watts’ assertion that Guendouzi is likely to leave the club this summer, Ornstein reiterated that it seems like the Arsenal midfielder could be heading for the exit.
“Matteo Guendouzi, I think it looks like his time at Arsenal is coming to an end,” Ornstein said. “Arsenal are offering him in exchange for players they might like to come in, in swap deals.
“If they as a club think they can bring in money, significant money, or a big swap deal, then clearly that’s something they’ve thought through. As things stand, I think there’s a good chance he’ll be leaving.”
In a difficult summer for major business, this could be one of the main ways for Arsenal to land their midfield targets.
The Gunners are unlikely to have £50m to spend on a midfielder, as things stand. But a swap deal for Guendouzi, even with a bit of cash on top, is much more achievable. Whether it’s for the likes of Thomas Partey, Dominik Szoboszlai or Houssem Aouar or whichever other player you believe Arsenal are after.
Arsenal need to be smart in the upcoming window if they want to end it in a stronger position. It’s a shame to potentially lose Guendouzi so soon after he joined, but if he isn’t gelling with Arteta, there’s no point wasting time and letting his value decrease.
