Arsenal want to sign a “good value stop-gap” to replace the injured Gabriel Jesus, says transfer reporter Dean Jones.
The Gunners have been linked with some big strikers in the past like Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic, but Jones expects them to look at a lesser name.
Mikel Arteta has refused to rule out signing a new forward following Jesus’ knee operation.
“Where it affects us is who we are as a team, because he gives us so much,” the Spaniard told Sky Sports and other outlets when asked if the club would look to sign a striker in January after Jesus’ injury.
“So what we can do after that, when we know a little bit the timescale and when we can have him back, we will look at the options, and try to make the right decision.”
Back in September, Calciomercatoweb claimed that Arsenal were one club who were interested in signing Vlahovic. You would imagine, though, that Arteta would find it hard to keep both him and Jesus happy once the Brazilian returns to full fitness.
Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Arsenal want to look at signing a stop-gap in January to replace Jesus instead of a high-profile No.9.
Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “It’s really difficult, of course, to come up with options at this moment in time.
“I mean, they have options within the squad already, but I think the best solution with them would be to find a good value stop-gap that helps them through the Jesus lay-off. And that’s kind of what I’m hearing they would rather look at.”
Jesus has impressed in England since making his debut for Manchester City back in 2017.
As per Transfermarkt, during his time at the Etihad, the 25-year-old scored 95 goals in 236 appearances.
It is no surprise, then, that Arsenal were willing to spend £45m on him during the summer, as reported by BBC Sport, and he has already made quite the impact there. This season, in 14 Premier League appearances, the Brazil international has managed to reach double figures for goal contributions.
The above shows why his injury is such a huge blow for the Gunners. His productivity has helped take them to the top of the Premier League table. Replacing that, simply put, is not going to be easy.
