Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has put pen to paper on new a four-year deal that will keep him at the Gunners until 2029.
The Brazi international arrived in England from French side Lille in September 2020 for a fee of 26 million euros and has since gone on to become a key player under Mikel Arteta.
He has made 210 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners, as well as scoring 20 goals.
“It’s an amazing club and I’m so proud to sign a new contract,” he said. “I love this club, I love the fans, my teammates, I love this stadium – I’m so proud and thank you for all the support.
“I arrived here as a young player, and [now it’s] almost five years at this club. I’m so happy, and I’ve learned a lot here. I’m so proud of myself, and as well, to have worn the captain’s armband sometimes in this club.
“I think it’s an amazing journey, and I’m so happy to continue this journey. I hope I win some trophies with this club, because I love this club, my family loves it.
“We’ve done a lot of good things, and now it’s time to win some trophies. I want to say thank you for everything. I love the fans, and I love how they push the team. I think they are so incredible to keep pushing us every single game. We continue together for the future.”
The 27-year-old also says he is doing well in his recovery from the hamstring injury which forced him to miss the end of last season: “I’m doing very well – it’s a bit difficult for me, but I know it’s time to recharge. I feel much, much better now, and I’m so excited for next season.”
Gabriel’s impact at Arsenal
Since his debut for the club in 2020 the Brazilian has been a major part of the side and the stats show that without him in the team, Arsenal are worse off.
Gabriel has featured in the Premier League 160 times, during which Arsenal boast a 63.7% win record.
Gabriel has missed 30 Premier League matches since he arrived and in that time the Gunners have won 12, drawn ten and lost eight which makes their win percentage 40%.
He has helped the Gunners to three consecutive runners up finishes in the Premier League, as well as playing a key part of the run to the Champions League semi-finals last season.
