The 2021/22 Premier League season was heavily disrupted by Covid-19.

Fans were back in the stadiums from the start and all the way to the finish, but the virus sadly still had a significant impact on proceedings.

During the winter months, things got pretty bad, to the point where games were being cancelled left, right and centre.

Players and staff were all catching the virus, which meant that there were plenty of absentees when a match was actually allowed to still go ahead by the English footballing authorities.

When Arsenal hosted Manchester City on January 1st, they were without manager Mikel Arteta after he contracted Covid-19 for the second time.

But despite the fact he was unable to be around his players in person, the Spaniard still delivered a magnificent pre-match team talk courtesy of Zoom.

From a television screen in the Arsenal dressing room, a fired up Arteta rallied in troops in quite epic fashion.

Footage of the team talk was captured by cameras for the north London team’s ‘All or Nothing’ series, with Amazon prime posting it on their social media channels ahead of the release of the latest batch of episodes.

Take a look at it…

Fair play, Mikel. Judging by the detailed diagrams behind him at his house, the former Arsenal captain’s version of ‘working from home’ is far more intense than most other peoples.

If All or Nothing has taught us anything thus far, it’s that Arteta is pretty darn good at his pre-match team talks.

It’s a shame the Arsenal players didn’t always live up to expectation in 2021/22…

However, most of them did in the match against City. Despite the fact they ended up losing the match 2-1, the Gunners dropped a stellar performance against Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side.

Bukayo Saka put his side deservedly in front at the Emirates Stadium during the first half and up until about the 50th minute, Arsenal were pretty much the dominant force.

But things changed for the worse very quickly. In the 57th minute, Riyad Mahrez equalised from the penalty spot after Granit Xhaka fouled Bernardo Silva and then moments later, Gabriel Magalhaes was sent off for a second yellow card offence.

Arsenal held firm following the major setback, however, Arteta and his men were ultimately left heartbroken when Rodri scored a stoppage-time winner for City.
