Arsenal have returned to winning ways in the Barclays Women’s Super League with a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton at the LV Bet Stadium this afternoon.

Vivianne Miedema netted the only goal of the game midway through the first half as The Gunners erased memories of their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United last time out.

After a relatively quiet opening in Boreham Wood, Miedema broke the deadlock when she struck a sweet shot across goal and into the top corner of the net.

Arsenal searched for a second goal in the remainder of the first half but Caitlin Foord, Stina Blackstenius, Miedema and Frida Maanum all failed to beat visiting keeper Emily Ramsey.

The hosts again looked dangerous after the break but Miedema failed to take full advantage of a flurry of chances which came her way, a combination of Ramsey and Gabby George preventing her from doubling her personal goal tally for the afternoon.

At the other, Aggie Beever-Jones looked set to beat Manuela Zinsberger but the Arsenal keeper came up with a big save.

In the dying stages of the contest, Ramsey pulled off an excellent stop to deny Foord before Everton twice went close without success through Lucy Graham and Karen Holmgaard.

In the end, Arsenal hung on for the three points which keeps them battling keenly for the Barclays Women’s Super League title with Chelsea and Manchester United.

A UEFA Women’s Champions League fixture against Juventus is up next for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday while Everton travel to the Leigh Sports Village to take on Manchester United in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup on the same evening.
