Arsenal are showing serious interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, according to BILD. The Dutch right-back is highly rated by head coach Mikel Arteta and the Gunners are expected to make an offer worth €40m for the 22-year-old.
Frimpong is a lightning fast full-back who can play on either the right or left side of defence. The six-time Netherlands U21 international kicked off his career in Manchester City’s academy before joining Celtic on a permanent deal in 2019. Frimpong featured 51 times for Celtic, where he won the Scottish treble during the 19/20 campaign.
In 2021 Jeremie Frimpong made the move to Bayer Leverkusen. He’s become a standout star in the Leverkusen squad and in the Bundesliga. Last season he recorded the seventh-highest top speed of over 36 kilometres per hour.
At Arsenal, Frimpong would compete with Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu for a starting spot. The Leverkusen defender isn’t the only player on Arsenal’s list of candidates. They’ve also reportedly identified RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Henrich’s and Manchester City’s João Cancelo as possible full-back options. If Arsenal are able to sign Jeremie Frimpong, he’ll be playing alongside fellow Dutchman Jurriën Timber next season. The defender is set to complete his move from Ajax to Arsenal this week.
