Arsenal welcomed Aston Villa to the Emirates on Friday night and hold on to all three points after a 3-1 win.
Scorers: Partey 23ā², Aubameyang 45+6ā², Smith-Rowe 56ā²; Ramsey 82ā²
Only separated by one point in the table, a lot was on the line for both Arsenal and Aston Villa heading into this match.
The hosts, however, were the ones who came out firing. Arsenal were on the attacking front in the opening 45 minutes with 14 shots and managed to have a 2-0 lead by the break.
The visitors, on the other hand, struggled to create anything worthwhile at the other end of the pitch.
Thomas Partey scored the opener off a set-piece before VAR handed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a penalty just before halftime.
Goalkeeper Emiliano MartĆnez saved his attempt but the Arsenal star converted the rebound.
Coming out after the break the momentum continued for the Gunners and Emile Smith-Rowe, who was pulling the strings on the pitch, added a third.
Despite darting runs from Villaās front line, they struggled to find the back of the net. That was until a curling effort from Jacob Ramsey made things 3-1 late in the game.
While the visitors pushed for a comeback, Mikel Artetaās men did enough to hold on and claim all three points.
