A slew of recent injuries have left warning signs at Real Madrid, in regard to the club’s lack of depth in the team.

Especially in the defensive unit, the reigning European champions are running thin of options, no thanks to the long-term injury of David Alaba and Joan Martinez.

This has left Carlo Ancelotti devoid of options in the centre-back position, with Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger being the only two available players.

The Real Madrid management has taken note of this situation and are likely to enter the market for a new defender, with William Saliba emerging as one of the top defensive targets.

Saliba open to Real Madrid move

A recent report from Defensa Central has doubled down on Real Madrid’s interest in Saliba, stating how the Frenchman is regarded highly in the Spanish camp.

But perhaps more importantly, the report suggests Saliba himself looks at the idea of joining Real Madrid quite favourably.

Formerly of Saint-Etienne, Saliba has emerged as one of the best defenders in the Premier League under the leadership of Mikel Arteta.

His contributions at the back have played a key role in helping Arsenal become one of the most defensively sturdy teams in Europe.

Although the Frenchman’s current deal at Arsenal does not expire until 2027, he has not hidden his admiration for Real Madrid.

Keeping that in mind, the defender has kept the door open for a future move to Santiago Bernabeu – a transfer that could make sense for both the player and the club.

In Saliba, Real Madrid could find themselves an ideal defensive partner for the likes of Rudiger and Militao.

As for the player, a move to Bernabeu could give him the ideal platform to showcase his football at the highest level and move a step closer to becoming one of the best defenders in Europe.
