Arsenal defender Laia Codina has pulled out of the Spain squad after sustaining an injury whilst on international duty.

The Spanish Football Association announced the news this morning via a post on their official X account.

The full impact of Codina’s injury is not yet known, however, it is being described as ‘physical discomfort’ which is possibly an indication that she is only carrying a knock. The defender will now return to Arsenal for treatment and medical support.

Arsenal return to action following the international break with a Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Bristol City at Meadow Park on Sunday evening. Head coach Jonas Eidevall is likely to provide further details of Codina’s injury during his pre-match press conference.

Codina was an unused substitute for Spain as they defeated Belgium 7-0 in Leuven in their opening match of UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifying on Friday evening. The player will now be absent from the squad as they prepare to play host to Czechia in their second qualifier in Burgos on Tuesday. There will still be some Barclays Women’s Super League representation in the Spanish squad with Manchester City’s Laia Aleixandri and Manchester United’s Lucía García being part of head coach Montserrat Tomé Vázquez’s group.
