So much for having no money!
Arsenal – who were said to be operating on a €50m budget this summer – have smashed their transfer record to sign Lille forward Nicolas Pépé.
The Ivory Coast international has signed a five-year deal with the club, joining for a reported fee of €80m.
Pépé became one of the most sought-after players in Europe after 23 goals and assisting 12 for Les Dogues last season.
Manchester United, Liverpool, Napoli and Inter were all thought to be in the running for the forward, but it’s Arsenal who have won the race.
Pépé will wear the number 19 shirt next season – the number he wore at Lille – after it was vacated by goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
