Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, but face competition from Chelsea.

Arsenal have renewed their interest in the 21-year-old after a failed attempt to sign Caicedo during the January transfer window, as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the club’s Champions League return.

According to reports from Teradeportes in Caicedo’s native Ecuador, the midfielder has agreed personal terms on a move to Arsenal and favours a move to the Emirates over Chelsea, as he looks to compete in the Champions League next season.

However, Chelsea are reported to be willing to pay more to sign Caicedo, who is valued at around £80m at the Amex Stadium. Liverpool are also interested, though the Ecuadorian is not understood to be a priority for the Reds at present.

Arsenal are keen to sign both Caicedo and West Ham captain Declan Rice during the summer transfer window as the Gunners look to strengthen the spine of the side. Granit Xhaka is expected to complete a move to Bayer Leverkusen and the arrivals of Rice and Caicedo would add dynamism and ball-winning ability to the Arsenal engine room.

Rice led the Premier League for interceptions during the 2022/23 campaign, while Caicedo ranked second. The latter also trailed only Fulham’s Joao Palhinha for tackles.
