According to Yorkshire Live, Sander Berge could cost £35 million for Arsenal. The Sheffield United midfielder has emerged as a target for the Gunners this summer, as they look to bolster their ranks in the middle of the park. Berge’s initial release clause with Sheffield United was worth £45 million, but it could reduce to £35 million, following the Blades’ relegation to the Championship.

Sander Berge has been one of the bright spots in an otherwise dire campaign for Sheffield United.

Although the 23-year-old’s progress has been marred by an injury that has kept him out for the most part of the campaign, he has impressed the onlookers with his deep-lying playmaking qualities in the number six role for the Blades.

One of Berge’s biggest assets is the positional and passing awareness that allows him to distribute possession with ease. He is indeed quite crafty with the ball and can effortlessly spread it all around the mark.

Moreover, the Norwegian international has the tendency to move forward with the ball, occasionally joining the attack. But, it is his game-reading qualities and tackling prowess that makes him such a sought-after defensive midfielder in the Premier League.

Is Berge A Good Target For Arsenal?

Arsenal will be desperate for midfield reinforcements this summer, as Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard return to Real Madrid following the end of their respective loan spells.

In addition, the club are braced to lose both Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi as they are not thought to be included in Mikel Arteta’s long-term plans while Mohamed Elneny has struggled to make an impact in the first team after initially making an impressive start to the campaign.

That is where Berge could turn out to be a sensible investment for the Gunners. Blessed with immense technical quality and positional awareness, the Sheffield United star should fit in nicely with Arteta’s tactical philosophy that revolves around positional discipline and a set pattern of movement.

The Norwegian could also offer the variety in midfield, alongside the more robust Thomas Partey. It could ultimately add another dimension to the club’s approach play, and considering his experience in the Premier League, Sander Berge should indeed be a viable target for Arsenal in the upcoming summer transfer window.
