In a recent report, Calciomercato mentioned that Arsenal are in a good position to land Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee this summer. It is understood that the Gunners hold an advantage in the race to sign the Dutch centre-forward.

Zirkzee has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Italian club after he put in a lot of impressive displays as the spearhead of their attack. The Dutch forward has banged in 12 goals and grabbed seven assists in 37 matches for Bologna this season in all competitions.

The 22-year-old has led the line well and deserves some credit for averaging 2.5 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 78% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).

Zirkzee’s current contract at Bologna will expire in the summer of 2026 which would make it difficult for the Gunners to recruit him on a cut-price deal later this year.

Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Go For Zirkzee?

Zirkzee can create some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball as well.

Standing at 1.93m, the Dutch talent can use his robust frame to win a few duels for his team in the air and is a tidy passer of the ball as well. However, Zirkzee needs to find a way to improve his offensive numbers if he wants to taste success at the highest level.

We can expect him to add more firepower to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s attacking department. He has what it takes to fight for a regular playing spot at the Emirates Stadium next season.

At 22, Zirkzee has the potential to become a top centre-forward someday. Therefore, it is only logical for the North London club to go for a striker with his skillset in the summer transfer period. However, it remains to be seen whether he can adapt to the high intensity of Premier League football if Arsenal manage to bring him on board later this year.
