Arsenal 23yo returns from injury days too late

Arsenal loanee Tyreece John-Jules has returned from a muscle injury marginally too late for an on-field comeback this season.

Arsenal’s Tyreece John-Jules has struggled with muscle injuries again this season, with a thigh issue keeping him out from mid-September to mid-November, and a hamstring problem ruling him out from late January until the end of the season.

John-Jules returned to training this week, rejoining the squad ahead of their game against Carlisle United.

But that game was just a little too soon for the striker to play any part in it, and he missed out on Saturday’s squad for their 2-0 win.

Derby’s win clinching them an automatic promotion place wasn’t entirely good news for John-Jules, as it means they won’t feature in the play-offs and their season is over.

Whilst he’ll be glad to see his loan teammates get over the line, and though he knows his winner against Port Vale in November helped them to get there, John-Jules now won’t have the chance to make his injury comeback this season.

In all, the 23-year-old striker played 375 minutes this season, scoring a couple of goals. He proved to be a popular member of the Derby squad as they achieved promotion, just as last season on his loan to Ipswich Town.

Yet this season will feel like another case of John-Jules spinning his wheels, with his injury issues continuing to prevent him from reaching the next level.

John-Jules said last year that he was hoping for a more permanent solution, whether that was promotion to the Arsenal first team or a transfer exit.

Another year out on loan is unlikely to have changed his mind, but the injuries make it difficult to find buyers.
