Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has claimed he "would be crazy" not to think about joining Liverpool this summer.

90min revealed earlier this week that Slot had emerged as the Reds' top candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp, and ahead of a 3-1 win at Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday, the Dutchman revealed Liverpool were in contact with Feyenoord over a deal and that he would be eager to head to Anfield.

Speaking post-match, Slot provided another update on negotiations and further explained why he wants to be the new manager of Liverpool.

"I'm having a great time at Feyenoord, but when a club like Liverpool comes forward, it would be crazy if I didn't think that was a great next step," Slot said.

"The clubs are in negotiations. I am waiting to hear, just like I was before the game. If an agreement is reached, there will be follow-up discussions. Everyone understands Feyenoord wants to get the most [compensation] out of it.

"But I believe they'll let me get the most out of it as well. Joining Liverpool would be a massive step for me. I just have to let the clubs do their job and wait. It's no secret I want to go to Liverpool."

Slot has enjoyed great success with Feyenoord since taking over at De Kuip in 2021. He guided them to the final of the inaugural Europa Conference League final in his first season in charge, but fell to Jose Mourinho's Roma.

Feyenoord won the 2022/23 Eredivisie under Slot's guidance, though they are set to fail in their attempts to retain the league title, sitting nine points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven with three games to go and with a far inferior goal difference. They did, however, win the Dutch Cup at the weekend.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have dropped to third in the Premier League standings after Manchester City beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 on Thursday. They now sit three points behind Arsenal and two behind City, though Pep Guardiola's side have played one game fewer.
