Lautaro Martinez is favourite over Mehdi Taremi to start for Inter Milan in this evening’s Serie A match away to Monza.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will be thinking about balancing squad rotation with matches to come with playing a strong lineup this evening against Monza.
The Nerazzurri take on Manchester City in the Champions League and AC Milan in Serie A in their next two matches.
Therefore, Inzaghi will certainly be mindful of resting key players.
But it is not as though the Inter coach will name a team that he doesn’t feel is fully capable of taking three points.
In attack, that means that Marcus Thuram will start, Tuttosport reports.
The Frenchman has arguably been Inter’s form player so far this season. He has already scored four goals from just three matches.
And Thuram will have the chance to hunt for more goals from the start this evening.
As far as the striker who will partner Thuram in attack, however, Inzaghi has been mulling over his decision for the past few days.
The Inter coach was reportedly leaning towards giving a rest to captain Lautaro Martinez.
Martinez is certainly a key player for the Nerazzurri. Therefore, Inzaghi is naturally reluctant to take risks with his fitness and freshness ahead of the matches against City and Milan.
As such, Mehdi Taremi and Marko Arnautovic have been candidates to start.
Taremi had seemingly been the likeliest starter not long ago.
However, the Iranian international is not quite at his best, physically, according to Tuttosport.
Therefore, it has been looking likelier and likelier that Martinez will get the nod instead.
The Inter captain is in search of his first goal in Serie A for the season. He was the division’s top scorer last time out. But he has yet to find the back of the net this campaign.
