Alexander Isak has been told to train away from the Newcastle United first-team squad as the forward pushes for an exit from St James’ Park.

Isak has informed Newcastle of his desire to explore a transfer away from the club this summer. Liverpool have had an opening offer rejected for the Swedish striker and are expected to return with a British record bid.

Isak did not join up with the Newcastle squad for their pre-season tour of Asia and instead headed to Spain to undergo individual training.

Sky Sports are reporting that the decision to train in Spain was against the wishes of Eddie Howe and his coaching staff.

After returning to the North East, Isak has been told to train away from the rest of the first-team squad with his future uncertain.

On Sunday, Howe told MailSport on the situation: “No player can expect to act poorly & train with the group as normal. You have to earn the right.”

Newcastle are working to bring in a new forward, though are set to miss out on the signing of Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United.

Howe’s side submitted a club-record €90m offer for the Slovenian, though Sesko is understood to have indicated his preference is Manchester United. The Red Devils have submitted a rival offer for the 22-year-old.

It follows failed pursuits of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike, while a bid has been rejected for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.

Newcastle’s stance on Isak’s future is likely to hinge on their ability to sign a replacement. The Magpies are also considering moves for Ollie Watkins, Lois Openda, and Nicolas Jackson, alongside a renewed bid for Wissa.
