Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Antwerp are showing interest in goalkeeper Gaëtan Coucke. The goalkeeper, who almost joined Celtic last summer, is a free agent after leaving KV Mechelen this summer. Many expected Coucke to already have a club to join, having known he would be leaving back in January. However, he is still on the market and Antwerp are planning for the potential departure of their goalkeeper Jean Butez .
Coucke, who came through the Genk academy, joined Mechelen in back in 2020. The 25-year-old was one of the best goalkeepers in the league during his first season with Malinwa and many expected that he would be sold. However, he managed to spend three seasons with the club, making 124 appearances and keeping 30 clean sheets. This past season saw Coucke look back to the form he had shown during his early seasons with Mechelen.
If Antwerp were to lose Butez, Coucke would definitely be a decent replacement.
