Antwerp have signed free agent wing-back Glenn Bijl. The 30-year-old has signed after his contract with Krylya Sovetov Samara expired this summer. He signs a one-year contract in Belgium, with an option for an additional year.
Bijl initially started his career after coming through the FC Groningen youth academy. The man capable as both a defender and midfielder made two appearances for the first team in the north. Then, after a loan spell at FC Dordrecht, he transferred to FC Emmen, where he played 129 matches.
In the summer of 2021, Bijl opted for a lucrative move to Russia. Playing for Krylya Sovetov, he made over a hundred appearances and not only became a regular starter but also regularly captained the side. His contract expired this summer, and Antwerp’s technical director, Marc Overmars, seized the opportunity.
At Antwerp, Bijl will play with compatriots Vincent Janssen and Gyrano Kerk, who plays for Suriname.
