Anthony Joseph’s Update on Sheffield Wednesday’s Move for Stephen Welsh | OneFootball

Anthony Joseph has this evening revealed that Stephen Welsh is wanted on a loan deal by Sheffield Wednesday. The Scottish defender has been absent from the team for a while now and hasn’t had regular minutes – with Ange Postecoglou preferring instead to go with the experienced Carl Starfelt and Moritz Jenz respectively.

Now that Jenz is gone though, it would seem rather foolish if we let the young centre-back leave as it would weaken the squad undoubtedly. Even with the arrival of Yuki Kobayashi from Vissel Kobe in the January transfer window, it wouldn’t leave us comfortable at the back if any injuries where to occur.

Welsh definitely needs to be playing more though and it is a difficult situation to deal with at present. He isn’t quite good enough yet to play consistently for Celtic, yet at the same time, he’s too good a player not to have in and around the squad in the case of injury to our first-team starters like Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt.

And Joseph revealed on social media outlet Twitter tonight that the English lower division side wish to take him down the road on a temporary deal. The Sky Sports Reporter stated:

With Ange Postecoglou deciding to cut Moritz Jenz’s own loan deal short at Celtic Park this month, it’s hard to see a situation where he will allow another central defender leave, even if it is just until the summer transfer window.
