Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani rules out a move for Maurizio Sarri’s old Napoli pupil, Lorenzo Insigne.
The 34-year-old is now a free agent after releasing himself from his contract with Toronto FC. The winger has returned to Italy and is hoping to resume his career in Serie A after three years in Major League Soccer.

Even though Lazio cannot sign any new players this summer due to a transfer ban, Insigne has been heavily linked with a reunion with Sarri. It has been suggested that the Euro 2020 would train with the Aquile at Formello before eventually signing a contract when the ban is lifted. However, Fabiani closes the door on this possibility.
In an interview with Radio Radio (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the director insists that his preference is to recruit young players, and that Lazio already have a savvy veteran upfront in the shape of Pedro.
This was more of a suggestion than anything else. We have already reconfirmed Pedro, and I’d do it for another ten years. He’s a locker room leader and a great professional on and off the pitch. I also want to scout young players, not thirty-year-olds. My approach is geared towards young players, so I have all the respect for Insigne, but I don’t think he fits Lazio’s project.
Fabiani was also asked about the future of Samuel Gigot who is reportedly at the bottom of Sarri’s pecking order. The Lazio director didn’t offer a clear answer, but hinted that the club might have to offload him
Regarding Gigot, there are key moments in the season when you have to make choices.
