Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has revealed if Cristian Romero speaks to him about playing at the Olympic Games he will be telling the Argentine to give it a miss.

The Olympic Games are due to take place in Paris this year between 26th July and 11th August.

During that period, Postecoglou will be preparing his Tottenham side for the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

Argentina are in Group B in the tournament, along with Morocco, Ukraine and one still to be confirmed side.

Postecoglou insists that the Olympic Games are not like FIFA or UEFA tournaments and clubs have more of an influence over whether their players go.

He is clear that if Romero does speak to him about representing Argentina in Paris then he will be suggesting that it would be better for the defender to have a rest.

“Clubs aren’t obliged to let players go, we have more of a say in it than other internationals”, Postecoglou said at a press conference.

“We’ll be making sure there’s a balance there.

“He hasn’t spoken to me about it…I’d be suggesting rest is a better policy.”

It remains to be seen how Postecoglou might react if Romero is insistent about being allowed to link up with the Argentina squad at the Olympic Games.

The 2020 tournament, in Japan, was won by Brazil.
