Andy Murray has named John Stones and Erling Haaland in his 2022/23 Premier League six-a-side team - and it contains two City stars.

The three-time Grand Slam champion and double Olympic Gold medallist went for Liverpool’s Alisson in goal, with Stones and William Saliba forming a dynamic defensive line just ahead of the Brazilian.

Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard was Murray’s midfield pick with strikers Harry Kane and our very own 52-goal Haaland leading the line.

Murray was speaking ahead of the 2023 Davis Cup Finals Group Stage event at the AO Arena in Manchester later this year.

From the 12 to 17 September, Great Britain will compete in Group B of the competition against Australia, France and Switzerland in a round-robin, with the top two teams in each group fighting for a place in the Final Eight which will take place in Malaga in November.

Manchester will become the fifth different UK city to host a stage of the men’s ‘World Cup of Tennis’ in the last 10 years, with Coventry, Glasgow, London and Birmingham having previously staged the event.

It is also the first time Manchester has hosted the Davis Cup since 1994.

Britain won the Davis Cup in 2015 – the first time in 79 years – and have also reached two semi-finals and two quarter-finals in recent years.
