Andy Carroll explains his decision to join Amiens | OneFootball

Former Liverpool and Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll (34) made a shock transfer deadline-day transfer, moving from League One side Reading, to Ligue 2 side Amiens SC.

The former England international has signed a two-year deal with the French side. According to the Courrier Picard, the 34-year-old, who wears the number 99 jersey for his new club, terminated his contract with Reading before putting pen to paper with Omar Daf’s side. It is the first time that Carroll has moved abroad during his career.

Carroll’s time at Amiens got off to a winning start at the weekend, as they beat EA Guingamp 4-1. The English forward came on in the 66th minute of that match, which saw Amiens move up to second in the Ligue 2 table. Daf’s side are behind league leaders Caen on goal difference.

Carroll has since been presented to the media, and in a press conference, transcribed by MaLigue2, explained his decision to join his new club. “I had many options from many countries, including in England. When I spoke with John (Williams), I came here straight away and cast my eye over the city and the club. I knew it was the place I wanted to play,” said the Newcastle academy product.

He continued, “It was by speaking to John and my teammates that I made the decision to come here. It’s a good club, a family club, with great facilities.” Carroll was then asked whether he has a specific goal-tally objective in mind. He responded, “No, I think it’s selfish to have a goal objective. I am happy to see the team score. The four goals in the last match are good enough for me. As long as the team scores, I’m good. I don’t have a personal objective.” Amiens next face Paris FC after the international break.
