Benjamin Sesko has chosen his next club, according to a reliable Slovenian newspaper.

A two-way battle

It has been widely reported that both Newcastle United and Manchester United were going head-to-head to sign the RB Leipzig striker, with the player weighing up the chance to play in the Champions League offered by the Magpies against the dream of playing for one of the world’s most renowned clubs in United.

Sesko signed a new deal with RB that kept him at the club until 2029, but similar to Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting, “When he signed that new contract last year, it came with the understanding that if an elite club — by his definition — offered in the region of €80million-€90million (£69m to £78m; $92m to $103m), Leipzig would allow him to leave.” (Source: The Athletic).

It is understood that Newcastle have already made it clear to the German club that they will reach that amount, while United are in talks and sending out strong signals that they, too, can make a satisfactory offer.

But the question has remained: which club will the Slovenian choose?

Inside sources make huge claim

Now, according to Delo.si, a credible leading daily newspaper in Sesko’s home country, “it’s clear” that Sesko is on the move.

“After a months-long transfer saga, the Slovenian football star has made a decision about where he will continue his sporting career,” the outlet says.

But it is bad news for United.

“According to well-informed sources, he will continue his career with Newcastle United.”

If the outlet proves to be correct, it leaves INEOS with egg on their faces yet again, having been beaten to Liam Delap by Chelsea, Viktor Gyokeres by Arsenal and Hugo Ekitike by Liverpool.

Whether United will remain in the market for a striker remains to be seen.

They have shown interest in Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins but the Midlands club have shown no interest in selling. United are reluctant to make the kind of mammoth offer that would be necessary to change their minds.
