América moved into the top four of the Clausura with a 2-1 win on the road against Querétaro.
Andrés Ibargüen was the matchwinner for Las Águilas, with a goal in each half for Miguel Herrera’s men.
The visitors were in charge from early on at Estadio Corregidora, but spurned good opportunities through Henry Martín and Sebastián Córdova.
Ibargüen opened the scoring in the 27th minute, and it was a goal worthy of several viewings.
With Querétaro penned back in their area, Richard Sánchez scooped a lovely ball into Ibargüen’s path and he supplied a fantastic right-footed volley from just inside the 18-yard line.
However, the hosts were back on level pegging before half time.
With the three minutes of additional time just about to elpase, América goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa completely missed his punch on a corner and Querétaro striker Ariel Nahuelpán was perfectly placed to power a header into the empty net.
The winning goal came 16 minutes from time when Ibargüen was on hand to rattle home a left-footed shot after a period of scrappy play in front of the Querétaro net.
Atlas are next on the agenda for América, with the Guadalajara side traveling to the Azteca on Saturday.
