Anderlecht U-Turn: Mauves stick with David Hubert over Tottenham’s Ryan Mason

Earlier this week, it appeared that Ryan Mason was set to be announced as the new head coach of Anderlecht. Many expected the deal to be done within the next few days, so there was certainly some surprise today when the club announced that interim head coach David Hubert will remain as head coach until the end of the season.

As reported by Het Nieuwsblad, the club felt that Mason did not meet all of the requirements they were looking for in a new head coach. However, while Mason was to be a risky appointment, Hubert is also an eyebrow raising one. For many fans, it will be seen as a cheap option. While the club may seen a slight improvement in terms of results, domestically at least they have not faced any of the top sides in Hubert’s short tenure. They could only draw with Charleroi and newly promoted Dender before a win over a poor Standard Liege side. Hubert’s first real test will be defending champions Club Brugge in a few weeks.
