As reported by Het Nieuwsblad, Anderlecht are formally complaining to FIFA over the failed transfer of Harry Toffolo to the club. According to Anderlecht, Nottingham Forest pulled out of the deal due to injuries having already agreed to the terms. The full-back had also signed an agreement to join the Mauves and had already passed his medical.
Anderlecht and Forest have history, with the Brussels side having eliminated the English side from UEFA Cup in the 1984 semi-finals, only for it to be revealed that the Spanish referee had been bribed.
This in a way sums up the frustration at Anderlecht over their winter transfer window. They missed out on Tolu Arokodare to Genk, as the league leaders rushed to replace the Southampton bound Paul Onuachu. In the end, Anderlecht’s desperate search for a striker ended up bringing in Brest’s Islam Slimani. The experienced Algerian striker will join the club until the end of the season. Slimani managed just one league goal for the French side this season.
