Danish website Tips Bladet are reporting that Anderlecht are set to sign veteran Danish defender Mathias Zanka Jørgensen. The defender is due to leave current club Brentford on a free, despite still having one year left on his current deal. The 34-year-old will sign a one year contract with Anderlecht. He is yet another signing that has experience of playing for Brian Riemer, who was a coach with Brentford prior to joining Anderlecht.
Zanka has played for a number of sides during his career. After leaving FC Copenhagen to join PSV in the summer of 2012, he returned to Denmark after two seasons. In 2017 Huddersfield paid around €2.7m to sign him. After two seasons with the Premier League side and 65 appearances, he joined Fenerbahce, having loan spells with Fortuna Düsseldorf and FC Copenhagen. In the summer of 2021 he joined Brentford on a free. He only made 21 appearances for Fenerbahce, but has made 48 for Brentford.
Anderlecht are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, with an injury to Jan Vertonghen leaving them incredibly light in that position.
