According to RMC Sport, Marcelino and Amine Harit (26) were involved in a clash after the final whistle as Olympique de Marseille eliminated Villarreal from the Europa League.

The French club survived a scare as their 4-0 lead from the first leg was cut to within a goal as Villarreal scored three on an uncomfortable night. A late rescue from Jonathan Clauss in injury time settled the tie but did little to settle the animosity between the club and its ex-manager.

Marcelino refuses to shake Amine Harit’s hand

Since then, the manager has criticised the Marseille support for holding back the club from becoming “a big club.” In the buildup to the first leg, Marseille’s Harit had called attention to these statements and said that they were going to be a motivating factor for the club.

It could be that Marcelino has taken exception to this as it’s been reported that when Harit went to shake his hand after the game, the manager refused, and even went so far as to push his former player away. The altercation had to be calmed down by Geoffrey Kondogbia (31).

Marcelino has refuted these events in his postmatch comments stating “No I congratulated him and that’s it.”
