América have granted their players over a month off following Saturday’s crushing Liguilla exit at the hands of Toluca.
The Azulcrema drew 1-1 on the night at the Estadio Azteca, but lost the semi-final tie 3-2 on aggregate.
It would have been a very different scenario had VAR not found that striker Henry Martín was offside by the tightest of margins for his stoppage-time effort which would have sent Las Águilas into next weekend’s Apertura decider.
According to TUDN, América’s players, staff and directors met for ‘about 30 minutes’ on Sunday before agreeing to break until 28 November.
Some players will, of course, be otherwise occupied with their national teams preparing for and participating in World Cup in Qatar.
The report states that the club’s board are set to meet on Tuesday to discuss a number issues, including the make-up of the squad for the 2023 Clausura.
Miguel Layún, Jürgen Damm and Guillermo Ochoa are all out of contract next month, but the latter two are expected to sign new deals.
It is understood that manager Fernando Ortiz hopes to bring in ‘two or three’ new players ahead of the start of next season.
