After being dubbed the ‘Mexican Messi’ and heavily impressing during his time at Club América, Diego Lainez has seen his young career come to a screeching halt following his €14m move to Real Betis in 2019.

Still only 21 years old, Lainez can still have a very successful life in football but will likely need to leave the Spanish club in order to realise his potential.

As Lainez will certainly want to be named to Mexico’s World Cup squad for the upcoming tournament in Qatar, a move away appears to be imminent this summer.

According to several sources in Mexico, América are analysing the situation closely and have reportedly offered the player the chance to return.

Lainez has not featured much for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this season, making just 13 appearances totaling 440 minutes in all competitions.
