It keeps Cruz Azul two points ahead of their rivals, with Puebla the next best team a full 11 points behind América.

The Mexico City outfits have been a class apart so far this season, and are guaranteed to finish in the top two with just two games remaining in the regular season.

However, América manager Solari believes the nature of Liga MX means that neither side can take anything for granted as they prepare for the Liguilla.

“I don’t know, in another league we would surely be competing for first place, but this league is special,” Solari said after the derby.

“It’s different, I know it. I’ve had to play it and now it’s my turn to train and there is a format in which there are quarter-finals, a semi-final and a final.

“We have seen everything for many years. It is a league that forces you to be regular and then also forces you to play another tournament apart which is the defining one and this is the particularity, anything can happen.”

The Azulcrema face two away games (at Toluca and Pumas) before the play-offs begin.
