“Amazing human being” – Some Liverpool fans thank Dutch star after his support to injured compatriot

Memphis Depay and Virgil van Dijk are teammates in the Dutch national side

Dutch international Memphis Depay sent a message of support to injured Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk recently.

Depay was playing for Lyon and took off his shirt after scoring a goal for the French side. The Dutch attacker had the words ‘Virgil stay strong my brother’ written on his undershirt.

This was in reference to our captain picking up a serious knee injury in the Merseyside derby. Jordan Pickford slammed into Van Dijk’s knee as the pair went to get a ball. However, there was no action taken against the Everton keeper after Van Dijk was deemed to be offside.

We are set to be without Van Dijk for a while and Depay had sent a similar message for the defender a few days back.

Fans thank Depay for support

The Dutchman is one of best players in Ligue 1 and has found his form since moving to Lyon. Depay also had his struggles in the Premier League after joining Manchester United. He was shipped off to Lyon initially on loan before making the move permanent.

Depay has been linked with a move away from Lyon for a while and Liverpool have been one of the proposed clubs for the 26-year-old.

However, the Dutchman has remained at the French club. He is doing exceptionally well again this season, with five goals and three assists in eight Ligue 1 appearances.

Depay and Van Dijk have featured regularly for the Dutch national side over the years, and this injury seems to have hit the attacker a lot. Many Liverpool fans thanked the Dutchman for this message and hopefully, we get to see Van Dijk come back to his best as soon as possible.
