The 2023/24 Serie A season kicks off this weekend and another dramatic campaign is on the cards.
As defending champions, Napoli have a big target on their back as they look to defend the Scudetto for the first time in their history.
They have kept key duo Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen but the losses of coach Luciano Spalletti and star defender Kim Min-jae are substantial and new man in charge Rudi Garcia has his work cut out to keep them top of the pile.
Inter will be in the shake-up again and are perhaps best placed to dethrone the Partenopei but it is hard to know what to make of their city rivals Milan after their summer activities following the upheaval that led to Paolo Maldini’s departure.
Juventus also cannot afford to have another season without challenging for the championship and with no European distractions, there will be no excuses. In his third season at Roma, can José Mourinho mount an assault on the title?
It seems unlikely but then again, who would have picked Napoli last season?
Coming up as champions are Frosinone after a four-year absence.
Genoa are also back in the big time after one season in the abyss and making their comeback even sweeter is the fact that they pass hated rivals Sampdoria on the way.
Claudio Ranieri’s Cagliari also navigated three rounds of play-offs to take the last golden ticket, memorably winning the second leg of their final at Bari thanks to a 94th minute Leonardo Pavoletti strike to seal promotion in style.
The biggest is, of course, at Napoli where Spalletti resigned after climbing the mountain, being replaced by Garcia, who returns to Serie A after spells in France and Saudi Arabia.
Fabio Grosso failed to agree a new contract with Frosinone after leading them to the Serie B title last season and departed this summer with ex-Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco taking over.
Marco Baroni left Lecce to take over at Hellas Verona, with his former club replacing him with Roberto D’Aversa.
