Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, Di Canio named the Partenopei as the leading title contender.

Napoli dethroned Inter last season in one of the most dramatic title races in recent Serie A memory.

Indeed, only one point separated the two teams after 38 rounds.

Antonio Conte won another Scudetto after returning to Italian football and will look to go one better this term.

It’s been six years since a Serie A club last defended its crown.

However, Napoli appear to be more formidable on paper after completing several exciting signings this summer.

In addition to Kevin De Bruyne, they’ve signed Noa Lang, Sam Beukema, and Lorenzo Lucca.

Furthermore, all key players have remained in Naples.

On the other hand, Inter parted with Simone Inzaghi at the end of last season, replacing him with Cristian Chivu.

Despite his familiarity with San Siro, the 44-year-old brings in a note of uncertainty due to a lack of experience in senior management.

“The Azzurri remain the favorites because they haven’t changed their coaching staff and are signing players with Conte’s approval,” he said.

“It’s the same point I was making about Inter in recent years.

“As for the Nerazzurri, a renewed sense of enthusiasm could also change some of their playing principles.

“I place them alongside Milan, who are led by a pragmatic coach like Allegri and don’t have European competitions.

“Right behind them is Juventus, who will push further up if Vlahović leaves and Tonali arrives.”

Despite Di Canio’s skepticism, Inter have what it takes to repay Napoli the favor for last season’s heartbreak.

Therefore, another nail-biting title race seems set to unfold.
