Despite a fee being agreed and the player flying over for a medical, Paris Saint-Germain did not sign Luciano Acosta on deadline day.
Thomas Tuchel demanded attacking reinforcements following the injury to Neymar and the D.C United midfielder ticked all the boxes.
Alongside Wayne Rooney, Acosta was crucial in guiding his side to the playoffs – scoring 10 goals and providing 15 further assists.
However, according to L’Equipe, a number of late disagreements between both clubs caused the deal to collapse.
PSG and D.C initially agreed on a $10m fee, but the MLS club then demanded a ‘significant’ sell-on bonus believed to be 40%.
The Ligue 1 champions were left frustrated, with doubts over his physical stature also causing concern among the hierarchy.
This lead the Parisians to pull away from the deal with Acosta left in the dark over his dream move.
