La Liga outfit Real Betis have this evening confirmed the departure of striker Borja Iglesias for the remainder of the campaign.

The subject of Iglesias’ future, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Andalusia across the week to date.

This comes after word was forthcoming that the 31-year-old had been identified as a chief January target on the part of Bundesliga high-flyers Bayer Leverkusen.

Playing something of a bit-part role across the season to date, it therefore came as little surprise when the Betis brass made clear their openness to a deal.

And, as alluded to above, on Saturday, precisely that has been struck.

As per a statement across the Verdiblancos’ website and social media platforms, Iglesias has linked up with Xabi Alonso’s Bayer on loan for the 2nd half of the term:

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, meanwhile, has since provided an insight into some of the finer details of the transfer.

Betis have secured an initial €1.5 million loan fee, with a further €8 million set to come the way of the Spanish outfit in the case of Bayer Leverkusen taking up their option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Iglesias himself has also agreed to the terms of a contract through 2026, in the case of as much coming to fruition.
