According to Foot Mercato Mercato journalist Sébastien Denis, Clermont Foot and Ghana defender Alidu Seidu (23) is set to finally seal his protracted €11m move to Stade Rennais, pending a medical upon his return from Africa Cup of Nations duty after Ghana’s group stage elimination.

The versatile defender, capable of playing as a centre-back or as a right-back, is unlikely to be available for the trip to Lyon this Friday but could conceivably make his debut in the home game against Montpellier on 3rd February.

As reported by GFFN last week, Seidu will be a welcome addition to an ailing Rennes side currently languishing in 10th position in Ligue 1, having conceded 22 goals in 18 games and seeking consistency that will drive them towards the European places.

The defender played just 18 minutes for Ghana at AFCON as the Black Stars crashed out at the group phase for the second successive tournament, drawing widespread criticism and the sacking of coach Chris Hughton.
