Alexis Mac Allister Offers Fitness Boost as Liverpool Prepare for New Season

Mac Allister returns with perfect timing

For Liverpool, whose evolution under Arne Slot is gathering momentum, the sight of Alexis Mac Allister back in full training may quietly register as one of the summer’s most significant developments. The Argentinian midfielder – a central figure in last season’s title win – has rejoined team sessions after an injury layoff that saw him miss the final two matches of the 2024-25 campaign and the early rounds of pre-season action.

“I’m feeling good,” Mac Allister told Liverpoolfc.com from Tokyo. “It’s just about time and getting fit because they have had a good pre-season, so they are definitely in a different physical shape. But it’s nice to be out there.”

It is not just his return that matters, but the reassurance in his voice. There is no lingering ambiguity about his fitness. “At the end, we found the solution; we have been working a lot in the gym, on my structure. It’s hard to explain it but… now I’m feeling good and for me that’s the most important thing.”

Fitness foundations laid after frustrating spell

There was no single dramatic moment of injury, no headline-grabbing blow. Instead, Mac Allister spoke of a complex, multi-faceted issue – “two or three different things” – that had left him on the sidelines for months. The solution has been painstaking but productive. He’s now firmly focused on getting match-fit before the start of the 2025-26 campaign, and potentially in time for Liverpool’s Community Shield appearance.

“Hopefully,” he responded when asked about being ready for the new season. “I need to work on my physical shape and get used again to the level of the boys… I’m pretty sure I’m going to be fine for the beginning of the season.”

Squad transformation fuels fresh optimism

If Mac Allister’s return is timely, it’s also into a squad bristling with new energy. Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Florian Wirtz have all arrived to help Liverpool build on last season’s Premier League title.

“It’s amazing,” said the No.10. “I think we’ve made great additions… They brought new energy, good energy, especially Jeremie! They are always smiling, you can see how happy they are to be here and hopefully they can help us to win more titles.”

Global backing underlines club’s reach

This tour of Asia – culminating in a midweek fixture against Yokohama F. Marinos – has also reaffirmed Liverpool’s global stature. With over 70,000 fans across events in Hong Kong alone, the support has been immense.

Mac Allister added: “It’s nice to see how passionate the people are outside of Liverpool… you realise how big this club is.”

As the season looms, there’s something quietly reassuring in Mac Allister’s return – not just for the rhythm of Liverpool’s midfield, but for a fanbase craving continuity amidst change.
