England defender Alex Greenwood says that the Lionesses want to invite the pressure ahead of a group decider against Wales at Euro 2025.

Following a comprehensive 4-0 victory against the Netherlands, the Lionesses just need a win against Wales on their final matchday in Group D to book a spot in the knockouts.

England defender Greenwood said the side are ready to invite the pressure, and are not letting the outside noise stand in their way of defending their Women’s Euros title.

“[Pressure] is something that we’re probably used to now,” Greenwood said. “So that’s a pressure that we’ve invited because when you’ve been successful, it’s something we should be actually quite proud of.

“I think as a team, we we don’t really focus too much on that now. We focus on ourselves and our game plan and the objective, and that’s the way.

“We enjoy pressure, but I think we also thrive in that moment. We showed that the other night against the Netherlands, that was a high pressure game, and we performed under the highest pressure.

“Tomorrow now becomes another high pressure game and I think we’re actually all really looking forward to it.”

Greenwood thrived against the Dutch after England head coach Sarina Wiegman made the decision to move her into the left-back position.

The Manchester City captain, who earned her 100th international cap in the game against France, made light work of the channel, nullifying the threat of Netherlands forward Chasity Grant.

The 31-year-old says that despite the tactical differences between the wider role and the central defensive responsibility she had against France, she is more than comfortable with playing in both positions.

“In my role here at England as a left back, Sarina allows me to still play to my abilities of what I like to do at centre back,” Greenwood said. “It obviously has some slight differences tactically, but I’ve been a left back for a large part of England career.

“It’s not foreign for me to play there, I enjoy playing there and itt gives a different side of my game. It’s not overwhelming or too much to think about.

“It’s just small details that I change. I don’t necessarily enjoy one more than the other, I think it’s just about the game plan, the opposition, and what’s best for the team. That’s the most important thing.”
