Sydney Lohmann says she hopes to be remembered in England for more in England than just the famous Jill Scott rant at Euro 2022, after signing for Manchester City this summer.
The German midfielder was the subject of an expletive rant by Scott during the final at Wembley Stadium three years ago, where England won 2-1 in extra-time.
Lohmann has now joined the club where Scott is regarded as a legend, after signing a three-year deal earlier this summer.
In an interview with The Athletic, Lohmann reflected on the rant by the former England midfielder which has since gone viral.
During the Euro 2022 final at Wembley Stadium between England and Germany, Jill Scott reacted furiously after she was caught by a challenge from Sydney Lohmann.
Scott, playing her final game before retirement, rushed to her feet and shouted directly at the former Bayern Munich star.
The England star was caught on camera saying: “F*** off you f***ing p****.”
Her rant immediately went viral on social media and became one of the iconic images of the Lionesses’ historic triumph.
Scott has since said that she wasn’t proud of the moment and even apologised to her grandma.
However, she later got a tattoo with the initials “FOYFP” referring to the famous moment.
Speaking to The Athletic, Sydney Lohmann has reflected on the famous rant from Jill Scott, admitting that teammates laughed about it after her arrival at the club earlier this summer.
She said: “Bunny (Khadija Shaw) was laughing in the dressing room about it. I never knew it was such a big thing It’s actually crazy. And I’m like… I just got abuse from her.”
Lohmann added: “I hope I can add to that. If in the end I’m (known for) both, that’s fine for me. I’m part of English football history.
“No, obviously, I want them to know me as a player. But, hey, I mean, it’s good they know me from that. They can watch me when I play now.”
Scott sent a video message to Lohmann as part of the announcement that she had joined Manchester City from Bayern Munich.
She said: “I just want to say a massive congratulations on signing for the club.”
Scott then asked who the message was for, and was jokingly going to repeat her famous her rant at Euro 2022 before her video message was cut off.
Sydney Lohmann could make her competitive debut when Manchester City face Chelsea in the opening game of the 2025-26 WSL season on Friday, September 5th.
City will be hoping to improve on last season, where they failed to qualify for the Champions League after finishing fourth.
