AC Milan have confirmed the return of right-back Alessandro Florenzi on a permanent basis.

The 31-year-old spent last season at San Siro on loan from Roma and managed 30 appearances in all competitions as Milan romped to Serie A glory.

Playing a backup role to Davide Calabria, Florenzi started 12 times in Serie A, chipping in with two goals for good measure.

He has signed a three-year contract with the reigning league champions, who are believed to have managed to negotiate a discount on the €4.5m option to buy which was included in their initial loan deal with Roma.

News of Florenzi's contract extension comes just hours after club directors Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara extended their stays at the club.

The pair have both penned new two-year contracts, putting an end to the speculation about their futures.

With Milan changing ownership this summer, there had been suggestions that the new owners could part ways with Maldini, but the club legend has put all the speculation to bed by inking a new contract.
