Florenzi uncertain about Pioli’s future, explains Milan ultras’ protest | OneFootball

Alessandro Florenzi insists all Milan players support Stefano Pioli but doesn’t know if the coach will remain beyond the summer and says he respects Rossoneri ultras despite their protest: ‘We are as disappointed as them.’

Florenzi spoke to DAZN after Milan’s 3-3 draw against Genoa on Sunday. It was a strange match for the Rossoneri as they could not rely on the support from their ultras who remained silent for the whole match and left the Curva Sud with 10 minutes remaining.

“It was a bit strange. The fans are an added value to us and they always push us to give more,” said Florenzi, who scored Milan’s first goal before the break.

“We have the utmost respect and we know they make their decisions for Milan’s good. I think it’s difficult not to support your favourite team, but I put myself in their shoes and I can understand them.

“Fans want a strong Milan. We wanted a trophy this season but didn’t make it, and we are as disappointed as they are. However, we never lacked commitment, and I am sure they will appreciate this.”

Milan coach Pioli said something similar in his post-match interview with DAZN and admitted that Milan’s Europa League exit will be among the factors club directors consider when they decide on his future at the club.

Florenzi uncertain about Pioli’s future

“I think the coach has given a lot to this team, changing the mentality,” argued Florenzi.

“If he got to this point, it’s only his merit. Milan will still play in the Champions League [next season]. I don’t know if he’ll stay, but the whole team is with him.”

How about Milan’s exit against Roma?

“I think it had an impact, especially because, in those days, everything was at stake, but we were eliminated by Roma and lost to Inter,” Florenzi concluded.

Milan currently sit second in the Serie A table and have already qualified for the 2024-25 Champions League.
